Typically, cooling towers with a wood structure are converted to fiber reinforce plastic (FRP). Concrete towers are dismantled and only the concrete basin remains to accommodate the new FRP structure.


Often the cooling performance and the reliability of the tower are improved.

REPAIR AND RECONDITIONING OF FRP FAN BLADES

After the FRP fan blades have been used for some period, the severe damage may be caused by UV Radiation, Impingement erosion and Dew point corrosion on the surface of protective coating ,thus, damaging resin bonded polyester. Finally, the blades will start to crack and break at the stress concentration point ,then , propagate to the other area on the blade.


When these fan blade’s service life is reached, normally about 5-8 years depending on service environment, a number of fan blades are needed to be replaced otherwise poor cooling performance and low plant reliability can be expected. The cost for replacement all fan blades could be enormous and absolutely unnecessary. Presently, maintenance team are becoming more and more important
